Container RTG Crane

  • Introduction:

A container RTG crane is a Rubber-tyred gantry crane for loading and unloading standard containers in large-scale container yards. It is not only suitable for the container terminals, but also for special container yards.

  1. The RTG crane is equipped with a telescopic spreader that can lift 20-foot and 40-foot containers.

  2. In order to reduce the swing of the spreader, a mechanical anti-sway device is installed.

  3. In general, the span of the yard crane has been standardized to 23.47 meters, and non-standard span yard cranes can also be supplied.

  4. The lifting height can ensure the lifting of a 40-foot-long and 9'6"-high container over 4 (or 5 to 6) layers of stacked containers.

  5. The yard crane is supported on large tubeless tires with 4, 8 or 16 wheels. The number of wheels is designed according to the wheel pressure requirements of the site.

  6. The crane travel mechanism can be four-wheel or two-wheel drive.

  7. In order to prevent mutual collision between cranes and containers, a manual correction system and a trolley four-corner anti-collision device are provided.

  8. The trolley running mechanism can be rack-type or double-axis or single-axis drive, and the operation is stable.

  9. There is a cab under the trolley frame, and the driver operates the entire crane in the cab.

  10. The RTG crane adopts an AC or DC speed control system, which has good speed regulation and constant power control, and can automatically adjust the lifting speed according to the different weights in the container.

In terms of safety facilities, there are overload protection, diesel engine overspeed protection, water temperature too high and oil pressure too low signal devices, wind speed indicator, typhoon protection anchor device, emergency stop button, and limit switches and signal indicators of various mechanisms.

  12. In addition, the RTG can also be equipped with DGPS (satellite automatic positioning system), ECMS, RCMS (fault display and communication system with the central control room), and crane lift-up device that facilitates crane steering and reduces tire wear, as well as a boarding elevator, etc.

  13. It operates based on the traditional four-rope spreader, does not require mechanical changes, and has low maintenance costs.

  14. In addition, RTG has no restrictions on the site and operates based on traditional port terminals, without the need to install peripheral auxiliary facilities such as magnetic scales and reflectors.

  • Fully Automated:

  • It realizes the unmanned driving and autonomous operation by integrating a series of technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine vision, motion control, and autonomous driving. Unlike traditional remote-controlled semi-automatic operations, it does not require active human intervention. It achieves full coverage of automated operations (level L5) in the yard and internal and external container trucks through environmental perception, precise positioning and autonomous control. These difficult actions are all completed autonomously by the this unmanned RTG crane, achieving true unmanned operation.

  • It adopts deep learning and multi-sensor fusion detection methods to perceive the target position in real time, and combines it with the control strategy based on the expert system to dynamically grab and release containers. The success rate of automatic grabbing, stacking and first-layer container opening in yard operations is greater than 98%; the container stacking performance is also extremely accurate. The deviation between containers is less than 3 cm and the deviation of container rows is less than 8 cm.


  • It adopts a detection solution that combines 3D cameras and lasers to dynamically detect the position of trucks and containers in real time, predict the time of loading containers based on the motion trajectory, and complete dynamic loading of containers with precise loading confirmation detection solution. Its efficiency is comparable to that of manual work, and its success rate is as high as 95%.
